Advanced Stages

Advanced Stages is a half day workshop designed for children who are studying Suzuki piano and are in Book 4 or above. All participants will have an individual lesson (30 minutes) and also the chance to observe other lessons with participants of similar skill development.  A coached chamber music session is also included where our chamber music coach will work with the pianists on piano trio repertoire with violin and cello parts played by similarly advanced Suzuki string players.  Parents may like to attend and contribute to the Early Stages parent talk during this session.  It would be a great opportunity for parents who are in the early stages of their journey to befit from your direct experience of working with your child(ren).  The workshop concludes with a concert (shared with the Early Stages children) where Advanced Stages solos and chamber music items will be performed.

PREPARING FOR ADVANCED STAGES

Please prepare a piece for the concert & the chamber music trio part.

The chamber music repertoire will be selected once registrations for Advanced Stages have closed (to match the childrens ability ).

It is a really important characteristic of the Suzuki journey that we only bring polished and well prepared pieces to the concert.  It is assumed that you have experience in selecting a concert piece but a reminder that It is so important to show that there is enormous value in step-by-step skill development and that demonstrating competence with the skills we have is what enables real music making. That said, your concert piece should not be a very recent piece. In any case, please speak to your teacher before deciding on your concert piece and note,  you do not have to do this before registereing for the workshop. Whilst you may wish to play your concert piece in your lessons, generally teachers will not make any major adjustments to your playing of the concert piece on the day of the concert etc. That said it's good to have decided in advance what music you would like to use for your lesson. Remember,  at all levels,  teachers will often explore and develop skills by reviewing "older" pieces as part of the lesson.
