This year our Early Stages workshop is an online event.
Early stages is designed for children and parents who are studying Suzuki piano and are in either Book 1, 2 or 3.
The first component of the workshop schedule is a parent talk and Q & A session with Anna Sibley on Saturday 30th at 18:30 GMT.  An often much enjoyed aspect of these workshops, the parent talk offers the chance to hear the insite that comes from an experienced teacher and also the chance to ask questions and discuss aspects of the Suzuki journey with other parents.  For the children, the workshop itself begins at 9:30 on Sunday 31st January with a short welcome and warm up. Children will have an individual lesson and also the chance to observe other children of similar skill development having their lesson. In addition, there will be an opportunity for every child to perform in an online concert and there will also be a play-together session lead by Graham Rix. This will involve everyone playing all the Book 1 pieces accompanied by Graham's multi-instrumental Book 1 backing tracks.

PREPARING FOR EARLY STAGES

Please prepare a piece for the concert.

It is a really important characteristic of the Suzuki journey that we only bring polished and well prepared pieces to the concert.  In these early stages, it is so important to show that there is enormous value in step-by-step skill development and that demonstrating competance with the skills we have is what enables real music making. That said, a concert piece should not be a very recent piece. In any case, please speak to your teacher before deciding on a concert piece. Whilst you may wish to play your concert piece in your lessons, generally teachers will not make any major adjustments to your child's playing of the concert piece one the day of the concert etc. That said it's good to have decided in advance what your current "work in progress" piece is that you can use for your lesson. Remember,  teachers will often explore and develop skills by reviewing "older" pieces as part of the lesson.
